Who pays for this

What is paid on this guide

The guide is free to read and takes no bets. It is funded by three marked ad placements on the home page. This page sets out what those placements are, and what they are not.

01Where the ads are

There are three paid placements, all on the home page: two blocks and one menu button. Each is marked Ad. All three link to an online casino partner.

Inner pages carry no ads, including this one, the venue pages and the transit pages. Anything paid on this site is labelled Ad; everything else is unpaid.

02Who the partner is, and who it is not

The partner pays the site a commission. The partner can change over time, and the placements will still be marked Ad when it does.

The partner is not PlayNow. Neither BCLC nor the province runs it. The site makes no claim about the partner's licence or legal status, and you should not read one into the ads.

Under BC government rules, BC law permits online gambling on a single site, PlayNow.com. Other sites may be reachable in BC, but without a BC licence they are not legal alternatives to PlayNow. The Online in BC page covers this in more detail.

03What is not paid

None of the other links on this site earn the site anything. That includes links to:

  • venue sites such as Parq and Great Canadian
  • PlayNow and BCLC
  • TransLink
  • Gambling Support BC and GameSense

No venue pays for coverage, placement or wording. The Parq Casino and Hastings Casino pages are written from public sources. Where a fact is not published, they say so. The Method page explains how sources are chosen. How the site handles data is on the Privacy page.

04Age and support

Gambling in British Columbia is for adults 19 and older. That applies to casinos and to all BCLC products, online and in person.

If gambling is costing more than you meant it to, Gambling Support BC is free and open 24/7 at 1-888-795-6111. More options, including BCLC's Game Break self-exclusion program, are on the Support page.

Questions

Is the advertising partner the same as PlayNow?

No. The home page ads come from a partner that is not PlayNow, and neither BCLC nor the province runs it. The stance of the BC government: online gambling is legal in BC only through PlayNow.com.

Does Parq or Hastings pay to appear in this guide?

No. No venue pays for coverage, and links to venue sites, PlayNow, TransLink and support services are not paid. The only paid placements are the three marked Ad on the home page.
